RDP Redo :: part one {of many}

Anyone that knows anything about homes knows that the “Heart of the Home” is….

THE KITCHEN

Well, when you buy an older home you know you’re taking on someone else’s taste, whether good or bad. So, when we bought this home we definitely knew there were some things we wanted to change quickly and then there were other items on the list that were a little further down the totem pole.

We thought we would live with the kitchen aesthetics, that was not our taste, for at least a year then reassess from there. But, the more we entertained, cooked and used our kitchen {especially during quarantine} the more we began to complain about what we would change when we DID reno this room.

Don’t get me wrong; It is definitely a great and livable kitchen as is but just a little too dark and dated to go with the rest of the house and our furnishings surrounding it.

Floors are not our taste either but, that’s a hill we aren’t ready to climb!The light in this kitchen isn’t the greatest either so we definitely want lighter touches to bring in more!

The previous owners didn’t cook and we are just the opposite and entertain a lot so these are the things we had on the top of our list to change without changing the floor plan of the space:

  • replace the electric cooktop with a nice gas range

  • cut the bar height island down to counter height and build it out with more storage

  • change out the backsplash, countertops and fixtures

  • add custom coffee bar/storage cabinet

So, that is where we started and of course the list grew along with the budget! I'll keep you up to date as we are starting really soon! Everything has been selected and the trim carpenter is up next! I will be documenting the process for those of you that love the before and afters of a home as much as I do!
